All-party govt demanded for next general elections

At a Monday discussion, opposition politicians called for the government to form an all party national government in order to hold the next general election free and fair.

They said that only an all-party interim government could make the elections transparent and impartial at the Shishu Kalyan Parishad Auditorium, Topkhana Road, Dhaka.

Zafrullah, freedom fighter and founder of Gonoshasthya Kendra, called upon the Awami Liga government to initiate a form of an all-party government to hold the next general election.

He demanded that the matter be resolved immediately to ensure an impartial arrangement for the next general election.

Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Nagarik Oikya convener, stated that the next general election would not be impartial if Awami League remains in power.

Manna stated that it will be impossible to form an impartial Election Commission if Awami Leage is still in power. Therefore, the ruling Awami Liga must be forced to resign before the elections.

Nurul Haque Nur, former vice president of Dhaka University Students Union, stated that the ruling party raised questions about Ziaur Rahman, founder of Bangladesh Nationalist Party to distract people from its failures.

Jatiya Mancha organized the discussion to commemorate the 103th birthday of MAG Osmani (commander-in-chief of Bangladesh forces during 1971 War of Independences).

Moniruzzaman, the President of the Organisation, chaired the event. Also addressed were Kalyan Party chairman Syed Muhammad Ibrahim and Jatiyatabadi Moktijoddha president Ishtiaque Azulfat, Jatiya Smaran Mancha central lead Jahangir Alam Mintu.
